Conference: The Performance of European Business in the 20th Century
Fellows Prof. Dr. Toni Pierenkemper
Description The project "The Performance of European Business in the 20th Century" is based on the work of research teams in currently seven european countries (Belgium, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Sweden and Spain) which are working together since 2002. The aim of the project is analysing the performance of large-scale buisness by the means of economic history. This approach seems to of great importance for the current renewal of buisness history as a scientific branch of economic history. The topic of the project is the international comparision of buisness data and the evolution of the economic structure in the involved countries in the 20th century. Both the development within the countries as well as similarities and differences between the european countries are to be traced. Buisness data from a number of companies of different economic fields in the periods of 1911-1913, 1927-1929, 1952-1954, 1970-1972 und 1998-2000 has been collected as data basis for the project.
Funding The conference is funded by means from the Centre for Empirical Economic and Social Research.
